Nursery wildlife

The wildlife adventures here at the nursery continue.

A week ago we had a bird sitting on the railing of one of the wood racks. It wouldn’t move with all of the commotion going on. First, we were concerned it was a sick bird (which it wasn’t) and secondly, we thought we knew what it was and we were right. We had a whippoorwill. We did place a call into the Rapture Center and there was a number regarding “other birds” that we called. We were informed that whippoorwills are very nocturnal, and that they will sleep on a horizontal branch during the day. It is attracted to lights and bugs, and with the security light on the office - he must have been dining on fine cuisine. The next morning, he had flown away.

Our duck story is continuing. The mother duck had made a nest in the balled and burlapped trees, however, that nest was abandoned due to the activity in the sales area. The other day we found two new duck nests. We knew we had one female here, but now we know we have two. We are anxiously awaiting the pitter patter of little duck feet. Stay tuned.
