With each trip down one of the sales decks, I finding myself saying, “This is the best time of the year”. It could be right now with the magnolias blossoming, or in another few weeks when the lilacs are in their glory, or maybe in August when the hydrangeas start their flower show.
The Magnolias seemed to have opened up over night – perhaps they were waiting for that really warm weather that we had yesterday. The pink of the Leonard Messel, and the white of the Royal Star and Merrill Magnolia, together with the incredible fragrance – makes you want to just pull up a chair and not move the rest of the afternoon. The Ann Magnolia that we are carrying for the first time this year, hasn’t opened yet. I’m anxious to see this one – it’s supposed to be a reddish-pink.
With the four varieties that we have in stock – you can find the magnolias in shrub form or tree form, and various sizes to fit your site and budget. The Royal Star is the smallest at maturity, followed by Ann, Leonard Messel and the Merrill. The picture here is of the pure white flower of the Royal Star. If you can’t plant a magnolia yet for a little while – you should still come in and see the blossoms. The blossoms last for a couple of weeks after which time the plant will emerge with bright green leaves. Come and take in some of the magic of spring!
