The Cole’s Prostrate Hemlock is a wonderful plant to add to the shade garden or boulder garden. Reaching a height of only 18″-24″ and 4′ wide (after many years), this slow growing evergreen cascades over boulders or is a great groundcover in the garden.
This is our Cole’s Prostrate Hemlock at home which has been here in our boulder garden for 7-8 years now. It is a wonderful, trouble free dwarf conifer. It’s mounded shape is the perfect complement for the boulders as it creeps slowly down the wall. The new growth is a bright green and the needles stay a dark vibrant green all year – even in the winter providing winter interest. Hardy in zones 3-7, an added bonus is that it is tolerant of the black walnut and is deer and rabbit resistant!
We have a limited supply in our specialty evergreen section. If you are thinking of a low-maintenance accent plant to your landscape – consider the Cole’s Prostrate Hemlock.
