Heidi’s Sneek Peek – #1 – ‘Pure Joy’ Sedum PPAF

I so enjoy the upright sedums I left standing this fall.  The winter frost and snow cling to them beautifully, decorating my perennial beds and borders.  This year we will be introducing a few new sedums to our inventory including Proven Winner, Sedum ‘Pure Joy’ PPAF which I expect will both “prove it’s a winner” and be a “pure joy” in the garden.  ‘Pure Joy’ forms a low clump of blue-green serrated leaves which become completely covered by a dome of bubblegum pink flowers in late summer.  Its’ compact nature make this selection very versatile.  At 10-12 inches tall it is perfect for edging, butterfly and rock gardens.  Sedums are a hardy and reliable perennial here in Minnesota.  They have excellent drought tolerance once established, and are rabbit resistant.  They prefer a location with full sun and well drained soils.  As you gaze out across your landscape this winter see if you might have a place that could use a little winter interest.  “Pure Joy” will be available for the 2013 season which isn’t far away so start planning your gardens and stop in to “Sedum” in the spring!

Heidi Brosseau – Knecht’s Nurseries Retail Manager – will be posting a “Sneek Peak” weekly.  Watch for them!
