Hosta ‘Sagae”

My favorite subject – hosta.   Another of my favorites – ‘Sagae’.  A BIG hosta, will develop with age in a robust, vase shaped plant.  Early in the season, the coloration looks like hosta ‘June’ but quickly surpasses June into attractive clump of wavy blue-green triangular shaped leaves, edged in yellow to cream.  Lavender flowers appear mid-to late summer.  Slug resistant.  Hosta Sagae was the winner of the American Hosta Society’s 2011 Popularity Poll.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I have mine planted in a garden that also has my “June’ hosta and it is a great combination.  The companion plants I have with these two hosta are Cimicifuga, Baptisia, Globeflower and Lenton Rose.   Pictured to the right is this perennial garden last spring just as all of the plants were coming on for the season and before the annuals were  planted.
